Do I legally need this certificate to get a healthcare job?
No. Article 4 of the EU AI Act places the AI literacy duty on organisations that deploy AI — your employer — not on individual candidates. There is no law requiring you to hold this certificate. What it does is let you walk in with the training your employer would otherwise have to arrange, which makes you the easier hire.
Will employers recognise this certificate?
It is issued by GovernedAI, an EU AI Pact Signatory listed on the
European Commission's public signatory register — not by a government body, and no regulator "approves" AI literacy certificates. What an employer sees is a named, dated record of structured Article 4-aligned training, which is exactly the kind of evidence organisations need to show for their staff. Many candidates will have nothing comparable.
What is Article 4, in one sentence?
Article 4 of the EU AI Act (Regulation 2024/1689), in force since 2 February 2025, requires organisations that provide or deploy AI systems to take measures to support the AI literacy of their staff and anyone using AI on their behalf.
Is it CPD accredited?
It is not accredited by a CPD body. The certificate documents roughly one hour of structured, assessed learning, and the Professional option (€75) includes documentation you can submit as self-directed CPD where your professional body accepts it — check with your own body (for example NMBI or CORU) on how they count self-directed learning.
How does it work, and how long does it take?
Fully online, about one hour: a structured course covering AI in healthcare, your responsibilities under EU law, and safe governed use — followed by a 15-question assessment with an 80% pass mark. Your named, dated PDF certificate is issued on completion.
What if I fail the assessment?
You can retake it. Nobody is locked out for a bad first attempt — the goal is that you finish genuinely understanding the material, because you may be asked about it in an interview.
How long is the certificate valid?
It does not legally expire — it is dated evidence of training completed. Because the regulatory landscape is still evolving, we recommend a refresh roughly annually so the date on your certificate stays current and credible.
I'm not in Ireland — is it still relevant?
Yes. The EU AI Act applies in all 27 member states, and the certificate reflects the EU-wide obligation. The course references Irish regulators (HIQA, the Data Protection Commission) as worked examples, but the principles are the same across the EU.
I'm a healthcare assistant / carer / receptionist, not a clinician. Is this for me?
Yes. Article 4 covers everyone using AI on an organisation's behalf — healthcare assistants, home carers, administrative staff and allied health professionals, not just doctors and nurses. If AI tools touch your work, the training applies to you.
What's the difference between the €55 and €75 options?
Both include the full course, assessment and named PDF certificate. Professional (€75) adds your role and organisation on the certificate, CPD-style documentation of the learning, and priority email support. If you just need the credential for your CV, €55 is enough.
